TAO THETA unites two opposing forces in a single object. Beneath you, a field of needles anchoring the body to physical reality. Above, a volume of water where jellyfish drift in endless loops. The pain that awakens. The beauty that dissolves. Together they induce a theta state — the brain frequency between wakefulness and sleep.

The Three Principles

Tao

Yin and Yang are not opposites — they are complementary. Taoist tradition teaches that contraries complete each other. The pain of needles does not fight the vision of jellyfish: it amplifies it.

Theta

Theta waves (4–8 Hz) are the brain state associated with deep creativity, long-term memory and active relaxation. They are not easily reached while awake — TAO THETA works on that.

Soma

The body is the instrument. Somatic stimulation from the needles activates the central nervous system while keeping the mind present, as the aquarium activates soft fascination — the involuntary attention that does not fatigue.

What exactly is TAO THETA?
TAO THETA is an object that combines two ancient technologies in a single white Corian structure. At the base, a field of stainless steel needles — a traditional acupressure mat. In the upper vault, an optical acrylic aquarium with live Aurelia aurita jellyfish. The user lies down, feels the distributed pressure of the needles, and observes the jellyfish directly above. The combined effect induces a θ state (theta, 4–8 Hz) — the threshold between wakefulness and sleep.
How does it work? Is it complicated to install?
No. TAO THETA connects to a standard electrical outlet and a water drain — like a washing machine. No special plumbing, no installations. Just plug it in and connect to the drain. Setup instructions are included and guide you step by step through starting the filtration system.
How do you acclimatise the aquarium? What do I need to do?
The aquarium should run for a few days before the jellyfish arrive, to stabilise the saltwater parameters. We provide all detailed instructions — temperature, salinity, filter cycle. No specific expertise required: following the included protocol, anyone can do it correctly.
How do the jellyfish work? Do they need care?
Aurelia aurita are among the jellyfish best suited to aquarium life. They require temperature-controlled saltwater and feeding every 1–2 days — the slow-flow filtration system is already integrated into the object. They do not sting dangerously and adapt well to enclosed spaces. We provide complete instructions for routine management and animal welfare.
Are the jellyfish included in the price?
Yes. The first set of Aurelia aurita is included. The jellyfish are delivered separately, after the aquarium has been correctly acclimatised — we ensure everything is ready before shipping. Future replacements are at the buyer's expense, but we provide contacts for our certified suppliers.
How does the pre-order work?
Leave your contact details in the form below. We will get back to you within 48 hours with all the details. Payment is required upon confirmation — the pre-order directly finances production. This is how an object like this can exist: no investors, no compromises. Production is limited to 10 pieces and the work order follows the booking sequence.
When will it be delivered?
Estimated delivery December 2027. Construction is entirely handcrafted and takes time — each piece is individually worked in our workshop near Florence. We keep all pre-order holders updated on progress.
